About

THE VIRGIN RIVER STORY

Our founders, Kevin and Joel, are native New Englanders and have spent the last few decades living in Southern California and traveling far and wide. One particular place, Zion National Park in SW Utah, has stood the test of time as a ‘go-to’ escape from daily life, providing a place of solitude to step back and take in the beauty of nature, and the once far-away place is now very close to home.

For many centuries, the Virgin River was referred to by the Indigenous American Pah Ute's as "Pah-russ", meaning "dirty, turbulent stream" for it's swift flows of sediment rich water. Early Spanish explorers named the river "Rio de la Virgen", which in Spanish translates to "River of the Virgin", dedicated in name to the Virgin Mary. The Virgin River is a small, but mighty tributary of the Colorado River in the U.S. states of Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. The river is about 162 miles long, and has carved out the surreal landscape of Zion in SW Utah for millions of years, bringing shapes and colors to life. With the desire to share a glimpse of the unreal and incredibly spectacular scenery created by the Virgin River, our line Virgin River Naturals was created. Simple, natural, pure, and beautiful.

WHAT MAKES OUR CANDLES + ROOM FRAGRANCES DIFFERENT

As an homage to nature and natural purity, our hand-poured candles and room fragrances are made with the most natural ingredients available. Inspired by nature, our fragrances are crafted with a blend of natural essential oils and premium phthalate-free natural fragrance oils. Our fragrances capture scent memories ranging from the mountains in summer to the desert after a rainstorm, from a sun-kissed summer day at the beach to a relaxing savasana after yoga, and everywhere in between. In addition to our regular fragrances, we are always adding new fragrances and offer holiday and seasonal scents too. WHAT’S IN OUR CANDLES

Our bespoke natural aromatic candles are hand-crafted, hand-poured, hand-finished, and hand-labeled in small batches in our St. George, Utah studio crafted with a proprietary wax blend of natural soy wax, natural coconut and organic Utah beeswax, with natural cotton wicks. Our glass jar containers are made from recycled glass and feature a sand-blasted etched mountain logo that allows the candle light to shine through. Featuring natural cork lids and packaged in natural kraft paper cylinder boxes, these glass jars are intended to be re-used and re-purposed once the candle has finished burning. Our travel tins are made with recycled steel in the USA and are finished with an FDA food grade coating. The tins feature a locking lid with internal fail-safe seal, and are intended to be reused too.

SOY WAX is natural and biodegradable. Soy wax will burn longer and slower than paraffin wax, and soy wax burns zero-petrol and soot-free. Paraffin wax often found in less expensive candles, releases harmful fumes of toluene and benzene, both are known carcinogens, and have been linked to asthma and lung cancer. Burning a paraffin wax candle in your home is like having a mini diesel motor running, which is why we use natural soy wax as the base for our blend.

COCONUT WAX is considered to be the healthiest wax for candle making as it is smokeless and soot-free. Coconut wax also provides a stabilizing quality to the blend, allowing the candle to burn more evenly and cleanly, providing the best burn to the edge of containers for a perfect wax pool.

BEESWAX provides several benefits to our candles. Beeswax acts as a hardener for the softer soy and coconut waxes, which makes our candles burn slower and for a longer period of time compared to soy or coconut wax candles. Beeswax gives the candle a rich natural honey like color, and also neutralizes pollutants in the air by producing negative ions while burning. This helps to remove dust, odors, and mold from the air, easing allergy and asthma symptoms. In the times before oil lanterns or the light bulb, beeswax candles were used as a primary light source and also to clean the inside air of indoor pollutants. Since we are in the Beehive State, our organic unrefined beeswax is sourced locally.

OUR MATCH BOOKS

Our match books are made using recycled paperboard, in a former 1800's textile mill building in New Hampshire. The building is nestled along the Contoocook River, which produces electricity to help power the plant.

WHAT’S IN OUR SKIN-SAFE LINEN + ROOM SPRAYS

Our skin-safe linen + room sprays are crafted with the same blend of natural essential and premium phthalate-free natural fragrance oils as our candles. The room sprays are made using a Soy-Based Odor Neutralizer to naturally eliminate odors and a Soy-Based Emulsifier to keep the blend evenly concentrated in the bottle and minimize ingredient separation.

Our room sprays are great for a quick fragrance refresh in homes, offices, cars, hotel rooms, boat cabins, campers, RV's, tents, fabrics, upholstery, stinky gym sneakers, the list is endless. One or two pumps of this ultra-fine mist is all you need, so use sparingly and these will last a very long time.
